I know you would be shot for doing this today, but in 1983 brother Geoff and I were a lot wiser and Health and Safety did not exist. The picture was taken to show our Mum what inflated air bags looked like. This was because she had leant us the money to buy them. The airbags had pushed up the fully loaded tanker, to the point where the waiting recovery vehicle can winch it back on to its wheels. Very low pressure but large volumes of air, are used to do the lift. There is a large control panel to moderate the flow of air to the bags. After Terry Williams (of Commercial Recovery in Stains) called me a cowboy, I used to sit down to control things - wearing a black cowboy hat. The vehicle was full of cat litter and fell over on Mitcham Common. It is rumoured that cats travelled for miles to make use of the product. |
